Silver futures ended lower in the domestic market on Tuesday as investors and speculators exited positions in the precious metal tracking weak global cues as the outlook for higher interest rates in the US dimmed the appeal of the shiny metal as a store of value. Silver futures for May 2014 contract, at MCX, closed at Rs. 43,508 per 10 grams, down by 1 per cent after opening at Rs. 43,899, against the previous closing price of Rs 43,949. Gold futures ended lower in the domestic market on Tuesday as a sharp appreciation in the rupee against the US dollar more than offset the slight gains seen in the precious metal in the overseas market. A stronger Indian currency against the greenback exerted downward pressure on domestic bullion prices. Gold futures for April 2014 contract, at MCX, closed at Rs. 28,898 per 10 grams, down by 0.90 per cent, after opening at Rs. 29,110, against the previous closing price of Rs 29,159.
